Miles pendant lamp by Yabu Pushelberg for Lasvit

Dezeen Showroom: design studio Yabu Pushelberg has drawn a poetic connection between music and glass blowing in the Miles pendant light, created for Czech brand Lasvit.

The Miles pendant lamp consists of multiple segments of double-walled glass – the simple outer layer contrasts with a more elaborate and delicate fluted inner diffuser.

The Miles pendant light plays with the connections between glass blowing and music

The shapes of the lighting fixture recall brass instruments, which Lasvit points out is an image that readily springs to mind when watching its craftspeople blowing glass.

However, Yabu Pushelberg also intended the piece to explore the connection between music and glass making on a more metaphorical level, with the design representing the balance between innovation and the physical constraints of materials and techniques that both sets of creatives must maintain.

It features a fluted inner diffuser

The creation of double-walled glass objects is a particular challenge for glassblowers, said Lasvit, as it requires high levels of accuracy and control.

The Miles light is finished with a metal coating technology, which is said to give the pendant a pleasing appearance even when switched off.
