Elle bookcase by Ferruccio Laviani for Mara

Dezeen Showroom: created by designer and architect Ferruccio Laviani for Italian brand Mara, the Elle bookcase is a modular shelving unit with an angular and lightweight look.

Made entirely of metal, the Elle bookcase consists of an ultra-thin rod frame combined with L-shaped internal elements that create its distinctive appearance.

The Elle shelving is modular with a lightweight structure

Different effects can be created by playing with the orientation of these elements – they can be placed in an open configuration to form shelving, rotated to create a double-height shelf or even used to close off the structure into a container or divider.

Mara describes the Elle shelving as “a transversal, modular, modern architecture” and “a tribute to lightness”, while Laviani compares it to a “passepartout”, or master key that can open multiple locks.

The L-shaped elements can be rotated to create different shelving styles

“I created this collection with my daily life and needs in mind,” said Laviani. “The result is a passepartout for contemporary furniture.”

Elle shelving is recyclable and has a powder-coated paint finish. It is available in a range of colours.
