In Amsterdams art district known as the ‘Spiegel’ area a spacious loft apartment was created for a young family of three. Located in the Kerkstrtaat the appartment with big windows facing the street there is a lot of privacy. The appartment is fitted with a split level so when you are in the livingroom you are 2m above street level.
The spacious loft appartment consited out of one big photostudio with some adjecent spaces that were not visualy connected to the main studio space. The ceiling height of 5m allowed us to put an extra split level on the street side. By opening up a big load bearing wall between the livingroom and the studio both spaces become one. Where the big wall separated the two spaces and blocked light the wall now is an impressive opening that frames the view at both sides.
The appartment almost has no doors, and if there are doors they are mostly hidden if they are not needed to close off a space so the sense of ‘openess’ is as big as possible.
