MR MARVIS – flagship store – Amsterdam

Mr Marvis - flagship store

Mr Marvis

Mr Marvis hit like a bomb when they entered the world of men’s fashion a couple of years ago. They filled a gap in market share that nobody was addressing: the men’s short. Men are quite simple thinking creatures and this is exactly what the founders of Mr Marvis understood. Why would you go shopping every season for a short that fits well, looks good and has a nice finish and the right color?

Mr Marvis started as an online brand and was followed by their first offline store in early 2020.  Encouraged by the enormous success of their first store at the Oude Looijersstraat the Founders decided is was time to mess with the big boys. The P.C. Hooftstraat in Amsterdam is a well known shopping street located near the Rijksmuseum, it is famous for the H’aute Coiture and big fashion brands. Even though the brand exists just 5 years (founded in 2016), they have already marked their position in the fashion industry.

‘new kid on the block’

While you are waiting at the intersection 30 meters down the street,  your eyes get caught by a typical storefront that you find a lot in the P.C. Hooftstraat. The big full height windows give the store maximum exposure towards the street and crossing. Behind the window sparkling bright images appear on a 4×3 meter high LED screen. There must be something awesome in inside! Being different from the rest is what makes Mr Marvis unique so that is what should be clearly visible in their stores.

The story

Frustration is the reason why Mr Marvis was born. Friends Steven Vrendenbarg and David Sipkens founded Mr Marvis because every year they had to search for a good looking summer short that is good looking and affordable. Together with a designer Aafke Tuin they came up with a plan to change all of that.

Mr Marvis was born. Motivated by the idea that basically every man had ‘that same problem’ each summer season there must be pretty big market out there that was not served yet.  And so they did, and even beyond that. At their website you can get the best mens shorts you can think of.

Flagship store

In november 2020 the flagship store opened its door for a few weeks, unfortunately Covid-19 put an end to that. The store is situated in a split level building with a souterrain and bel-etage in back. The aim of the design is to let the customer engage with the brand upstairs and they can try them downstairs. To get inspired by the colors and different short types the visitor goes to the bel-etage where the visitor is caught in circular shaped path that is completely surrounded by the best short the world has ever seen…  The Mr Marvis original.
